“Breaking with tradition,” strong gin & tonic NV

This doesn’t need to take long. Tonight is the night before we go back to school, an elongated process by which fully-fledged adults are eased gently back into their work life as if infants in water wings flailing about the shallow end of a wading pool. Too fast and we would surely drown. For my part, I’ve been preparing my room, my team, and my lessons. In a nutshell, this is where I’ve gotten with it all so far:

Clearly I have some work to do.

I’ve also been doing some thinking. Last year, I seem to have stopped taking pride in my appearance, stopped wearing a tie altogether, wore a lot of black with brown combinations that worked about as much as I cared. I think it impacted my attitude. So recently, I purchased some argyle socks. I think I’ll try to spiff myself up a bit this coming year, dress like someone who has an A game to bring, you know? We’ll see how long it lasts. Casual Thursdays look pretty appealing at 5AM.

In addition, and on that note, I think I’ll also sleep in a bit. Last year I got up at four most mornings, but this year I’d like to get more sleep. That may mean less blog posts, but it may also mean greater sanity, and that feels like a fair trade off to me.

And lastly, I hope to be more organized next year. I know my room in its current state doesn’t exactly exemplify that wish, but hopefully in time it comes together. And by “in time” I mean by next week when kids show up. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

I broke with tradition tonight, made myself a gin and tonic rather than pouring myself a glass of wine, and you know what? It’s going down just fine. I can’t say for sure what next year will look like, but I plan to try a few new things, and I hope to make it a good one.

Cheers to the start of the school year, and to doing things a little differently,
